Moray MP Douglas Ross has had a busy week after being re-elected as Moray’s MP, but was delighted to be able to announce the winner of his 2019 Christmas Card design competition.
Douglas said: “I was absolutely delighted with the standard of entries from primary schools across Moray this year, and once again I found it really difficult to pick a winner, because there were so many excellent designs.
“While the competition started earlier in the year and some entries had already arrived before the General Election was called, I left it until I was returned as Moray’s MP before picking a winner. Indeed after just a few hours sleep following the count I was in the office looking at all the entries and picking the winning designs.
“After looking through the many entries there had to be an overall winner and I was taken by the design submitted by Evie Souter, aged 6, P2 from St Gerardine’s Primary School. The design with Santa and Rudolph visiting Covesea Lighthouse painted A great image of Moray at Christmas.
“Unfortunately, due to having to be in the House of Commons all week, I was unable to present Evie with her prize personally, but my Manager Doug Mackenzie stepped in for me and presented the winner and the three runners up with their prizes. All the pupils who took part also received my signed certificates.
“Evie’s winning design is now on the front of my Christmas card along with the designs of the three runners which are included inside. I’m delighted to send these cards out as my official Christmas card, showing the artistic skills of our young people from Moray.
“I’m grateful to all the pupils who took part in the competition and for submitting their excellent designs and I would also like to thank all the sponsors. As a result of their generosity I will also be able to donate the balance of the money raised from this competition to the MFR Children’s Appeal.”
