Moray MP Douglas Ross has expressed astonishment after Moray’s SNP MSP Richard Lochhead, said that prioritising fishing in the Brexit negotiations runs against the national interest. Mr Lochhead was quoted condemning the attention that was being given to fishing during the Brexit negotiations while he was speaking at an education conference.
Douglas said: “It is ironic that a couple of days after I met Michael Gove to stress the vital importance of getting out of the Commons Fisheries Policy, that Richard Lochhead should be downplaying the significance of the fishing industry.
“I have repeatedly said that I will not support a Brexit deal that does not allow us to become an independent coastal state and control who fishes in our waters. The SNP in Moray, on the other hand, seem to think that locking us into the hated CFP is a price worth paying for their obsession with independence. I am astonished that Mr Lochhead has said this and ignored the interests of an industry that is so close to the hearts of so many people and communities in Moray.”
