Moray MP Douglas Ross has praised Moray Council who recently announced that they have been able to recruit several newly qualified teachers to posts around Moray, after streamlining the system for placing NQTs (Newly Qualified Teachers).
Commenting Douglas said: “I really welcome the work Moray Council has done to streamline the process of appointing newly qualified teachers, securing more teachers ready to start in local schools after the summer.
“Moray’s problems in recruiting enough teachers has been well documented and local people were naturally concerned when some schools suggested they may even have to close early as they had insufficient staff to teach pupils and keep the schools open.
“What is also really encouraging is the number of teachers returning to Moray after their training to teach here. For too long people have moved away from Moray to study and not returned, but that seems to be changing and is very welcome indeed.
“I wish all the teachers every success in their new positions and I hope their experiences will encourage more people to choose to come to Moray for their own teaching career.”
