Moray MP Douglas Ross has expressed optimism that residents of Fogwatt could soon have a new footpath.
Douglas spoke after chairing a meeting in the village hall that was attended by local residents, members of Heldon Community Council and representatives from Moray Council and the Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership (HITRANS).
Douglas said: “Fogwatt is divided by the A941 which everyone knows is an extremely busy road. Residents have called for a footpath that allow them to walk safely to the village hall and bus stop and to each other’s houses. At the moment they have to navigate a muddy and uneven path along the roadside verge. This is clearly unsatisfactory, so I was very pleased to be able to convene a meeting recently at which we could plan how to progress with getting a new footpath installed.”
Ranald Robertson, Partnership Director of HITRANS, said: “I believe this is a promising project that would deliver very well for villagers. HITRANS will undertake design work on the path with a view to supporting a funding application to the Community Links fund. Supporting local communities find sustainable ways of travelling is something we are keen to assist and a new footpath in Fogwatt will help to achieve that.”
Willie Duncan, a member of Heldon Community Council, said: “Residents in Fogwatt have long been calling for a proper footpath. The present path is just an informal muddy track along the verge and is far from ideal. I am very pleased that we seem to be making some progress and hope that 2019 sees our plans come to fruition. I know a new path will be welcomed by everyone in Fogwatt.”
It is hoped that a design for a new footpath can be progressed early in the New Year with applications for funding taking place shortly afterwards.
